Watch: When Ravi Shastri called Sourav Ganguly ‘Doda’ instead of ‘Dada’

Mumbai: Team India Director Ravi Shastri is known for shooting stellar quotes. His flair for words started as soon as he picked up the microphone. The man – who has often been trolled for clichés – had committed a massive blunder the day Sourav Ganguly retired ( in 2008). Instead of referring to him as ‘Dada’, he uttered ‘Doda’.

During the presentation ceremony, he called the young Mahendra Singh Dhoni to say a few words about the retiring cricketers, that also included Anil Kumble and said: “Two great players have retired and of course, Doda, Sourav ‘Doda’ Ganguly. You’ve played under him, you’ve captained him. Your thoughts?”

Shastri never leaves a stone unturned to attach a sense of panache in his presentation but this held him in poor light.

The whole world knew Ganguly as ‘Dada’ and Shastri, a senior commentator making such a gaffe was beyond egregious.
