Celebrations go wild in Bangladesh, Indian fan gets stoned
Mirpur: Mahendra Singh Dhoni and the Indian Cricket Team faced a series defeat for the first time at the hands of the proverbial minnows of cricket, Bangladesh, who have certainly given a not-so-cordial welcome to the Men in Blue.
After a thumping 79-run victory in the first ODI, ‘The Tigers’ went on to clinch the three match series 2-1 with their impeccable six-wicket win in Mirpur on Sunday, taking their winning streak to 10 games at home.
It was evident that 23,000 fans in the stands would go ecstatic and celebrations did go on till early morning. However, some did take a sour turn when an Indian fan bore the brunt of Team India’s disastrous performance at the Shere Bangla Stadium.
Famous Sachin Tendulkar fan and one who’s almost present at each match India is playing claimed that he was attacked by Bangladesh fans in Dhaka after the second ODI.
Sudhir Kumar Chaudhary, also known as Sudhir Gautam, said that as soon as the match got over, he was mobbed by fans outside the stadium and they even pelted stones at the auto-rickshaw he hired, according to a report in ‘CricketNext’.
"As soon as I left the stadium, people mobbed me and started snatching the tri-colour, breaking the handle of the flag. Two policemen who were outside the stadium came to my rescue and they escorted me to an auto-rickshaw. But the mob further attacked the auto and tried to break into it. They even hurled stones on the vehicle but luckily the auto was covered completely and I didn't get hurt," Sudhir told ‘CricketNext’.
