Works to widen Karrakatta Road by five metres to start soon

GUNTUR: With the riverside Lingamaneni guest house being proposed for Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's temporary stay in the capital region, works would soon be taken up on the Karrakatta Road to facilitate the movement of the CM's convoy on the particular stretch. Karrakatta Road, five feet wide at present, would be widened to ten feet over a stretch of 10 km for facilitating movement of vehicles to and from the CM's temporary house on the Karrakatta.

In another development, TD leaders refuted the allegations about violations of norms by the guest house. The guest house, constructed after obtaining permissions from irrigation department and Undavalli gram panchayat, has no pending house tax, claimed the leaders. According to Lingamaneni Ramesh, owner of the guest house, permissions were obtained from the irrigation department to construct a swimming pool and building in 1.31 acres of land in survey number 271 and 272 on May 16, 2007 and Undavalli gram panchayat gave permissions for the same on September 15, 2011.

Mr Ramesh also claimed that the house tax, an amount of '14,704, was paid to the Undavalli panchayat. As per the sources of roads and buildings department, the present Karrakatta was constructed fifty years ago to save the villages of Tadepalli, Amaravati, Mangalagiri and other adjacent areas and the road was constructed during the last Krishna River Pushkaralus.

However, later the Karrakatta Road remained in a state of neglect for around twelve years. R&B superintendent engineer M. Raghavendra Rao said the department is readying proposals for taking up widening of the road in order to ease the movement of the CM's convoy. He added that works would be started as soon as orders are received from the government.

Meanwhile, Telugu Desam leader and All India Panchayat Parishad president Jasti Veeranjaneyulu said that the stay of Mr Naidu at the riverside guest house would be helpful in speeding up the works for new capital. The guest house proposed for the CM's stay has all the permissions from irrigation department and local panchayat, he added.
