Helpline down, Food safety officials Relax
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: At a time when there has been an increase in the number of food quality issues across the nation, the toll free number of the food safety authorities has stopped functioning.
Several citizens who called up the food safety helpline 1800-4251125 FREE this week did not get through. After two days of failed attempts to establish a contact via this number which is displayed at all hotels and restaurants, Deccan Chronicle reached out to the Designated Food Safety officer for Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday. “Complaints are taken only during working hours, that too on working days,” said the official, Sivakumar.
Calls made to food and safety Commissioner T.V. Anupama also did not yield any result. “Toll free numbers are expected to be active until late in the evening. It is sad that our grievances are not redr-essed,” said Unnikrishn-an, a complainant.
