22 polling stations identified as vulnerable
Chennai: Chief Electoral Officer Sandeep Saxena on Saturday said that 22 polling stations in the high profile R K Nagar assembly constituency are ‘vulnerable.’ “There are 230 polling stations. We have identified polling stations that are vulnerable for poll violations. Additional security, micro observers and surveillance cameras will be in place to ensure free and fair polls, Saxena told reporters.
Of the 10 companies of para military force requisitioned, four companies of BSF personnel and one of CRPF have been deployed for poll related duties from June 18. Additional paramilitary fpersonnel will be deployed to prevent any untoward incident and any violation of the model code.To ensure free and fair poll CCTV camaeras are periodically being installed at vantage points. Any specific complaint can be attended on real time as the video feed can be assessed any time.
More than 100 hidden cameras have been installed to improve surveillance. Based on the results of the measure, the concept of hidden cameras will be implemented across Tamil Nadu for the next general Assembly polls scheduled next year, Saxena said.
To prevent vulnerable voters from being intimidated or wrongfully influenced before and during the poll, police patrolling will be scaled up in such areas and 230 micro observers will be monitoring the elections closely, the CEO added.
