Many people prefer yoga to aerobics in gymnasiums
Vijayawada: Vijayawada is gearing up for celebrating the International Day of Yoga, following a call by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Of late, many individuals have been showing interest in practising yoga daily considering its multiple benefits.
A good number of yoga teaching centres have been mushrooming in the city along with nature cure centres. Of late, yoga is being practised not just by those few who have been advised by doctors but also by others as they are considering it an alternative to aerobics and exercise in gym.
“For elders, doing yoga will be difficult in the beginning but once they do it continuously, they will be able to feel the benefits. It is better if one can practise it from childhood. There would be no other exercise better than yoga to keep one fit. These days many people are now preferring to do yoga,” said K. Raju, a yoga teacher in the city.
He felt that yoga should be made compulsory in schools for students to help achieve a fit mind and body.
Apart from traditional yoga, power yoga, which is a general term to describe vigorous fitness based asanas, is also being taught at yoga centres. It is an ancient system of holistic healing.
It is mostly preferred by young people as they have a flexible body and it tends to make it more perfect. The yoga centres in the city charge more than Rs 2000 per month for one person. There are tens of yoga teaching centres in the city and many more would come up in the coming days.
