Telangana steps in to stem price rise in goods

Govt is planning to procure essentials from the open market using the market intervention
Hyderabad: The Telangana State government has finally taken note of the rising prices of all essential commodities, with marketing minister T. Harish Rao holding a three-hour meeting with officials on ways to hold the price line. Officials discussed proposals to set up special counters in Rythu Bazaars and other places to provide vegetables, rice and pulses at subsidised rates.
The government is planning to procure essentials from the open market using the market intervention fund and supply them at subsidised rates till the prices come down after fresh crop arrivals by September-October. It was decided to hold a full-fledged meeting with ministers and officials of both marketing and civil supplies departments next week to prepare an action plan to control prices.
Civil supplies minister of Telangana, Etela Rajender has been confined to his house since last week following injuries he sustained in a road accident in Karimnagar. The meeting is likely to be held after he returns to work.
