Telangana: Graft hits Wedding schemes for SC/STs

These schemes are monitored by the social welfare and minority welfare departments
Hyderabad: The Telangana state government’s Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes to provide financial assistance of Rs 51,000 each for the marriage of SC, ST and minority girls is mired in irregularities and corruption.
Those who performed marriages three to five years ago have been claiming the benefit by submitting fake marriage certificates and wedding invitation cards. Revenue officials ,right from village-level to mandal-level, have colluded with applicants and issued fake certificates with an agreement of sharing the government benefit equally. These cases came to light in Nalgonda, Medak and Warangal districts following which the government has ordered an inquiry headed by district collectors.
Both these schemes are monitored by the social welfare and minority welfare departments of Telangana.
Shockingly, in Warangal district, it came to light that about 10 couples who married three to five years ago, claimed the benefit by submitting fake certificates and wedding invitation cards stating that their marriage was performed after Oct. 2, 2014, the day these schemes were launched.
