Man tries to jump off building rescued in Ernakulam
Kochi: Ananth, suspected to be a native of Madhya Pradesh, kept fire force and police officials on tenterhooks for nearly four hours as he threatened to commit suicide by jumping from the top of the taluk office building here on Saturday.
A couple of fire force officials also suffered minor injuries as Anath, suspected to be mentally unstable, attacked them with broken pieces of tiles while they attempted to rescue him from the top of the building.
The fire force officials finally managed to persuade him to come down after an ordeal of nearly four hours. Police and fire force officials however remained clueless on how the person had managed to climb on top of the building.
Police brought him to the general hospital to provide first aid before presenting him the court. The court had directed the police to admit him the mental hospital in Thrissur to verify his mental health conditions.
The person believed to be in his 30s declined to talk anything, said police officials. He was talking in an incoherent manner and mentioned his name as Anand. He also indicated that he belonged to Madhya Pradesh. Beyond that he was not saying anything clearly, police officials said.
