Jamat-e-Islami Hind organisation sends Iftar fruits for prison inmates

There are 250 men and 50 women fasting this year
Hyderabad: Over 300 inmates of the Chanchalguda jail, who are fasting during the month of Ramzan, are being given fruits for Iftar by the Jamat-e-Islami Hind organisation. Iftar is an important part of Ramzan and while breaking the fast, rozadars (those fasting) have a variety of fruits.
Abdul Khader Naseer, the president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, said, “The inmates are given a good dinner, but provision of fruits and dates for Iftar was difficult to implement for the jail authorities. We got several queries asking us whether we could arrange for fruits for the inmates. We readily agreed and since the past five years have been sending fruits to the prison.”
There are 250 men and 50 women fasting this year, and they have been separated from other inmates as they need to offer prayers. During iftar too, there are separate arrangements for them.
Mr Naseer said, “We get regular contributions for Ramzan. Five of our members contribute for the fruits and dates that are sent to the jail inmates. The remaining contributions are given to the poor people in the slum areas.”
A senior jail officer said, “The organisation has been instructed to hand over the bags of fruits to the constables at the gate. We understand the nuances of Iftar.” The activity has earned appreciation from various quarters.
