Heavy rains to continue in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh
Hyderabad has received 111 per cent more rainfall than normal till date this season
Hyderabad: Heavy rains will continue to lash Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall warning for six districts of Telangana and seven districts of AP.
The warning is for three days in Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, Nalgonda and Khammam in Telangana, and for two days in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna and Guntur in AP. Meanwhile, a low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal concentrated into a depression and strong winds of upto 55 kmph are expected along the AP coast.
Hyderabad has received 111 per cent more rainfall than normal till date this season. The normal level for the city is 4.9 cm at this time, but Hyderabad has received 10.5 cm till now. In Telangana, all the districts except Mahbubnagar have received excess rainfall. The highest was at Warangal where 16.8 cm has been received till now as compared to the norm of 6.4 cm.
The IMD said that the southwest monsoon was vigorous over coastal AP and active over Telangana. On Saturday, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram districts recorded rainfall ranging between 7 cm and 17.5 cm. Temperatures dropped by up to 9ºC from the normal in parts of coastal AP.
Monsoon has been weak over Rayalaseema; rainfall was deficient in Kadapa and Anantapur and normal in Chittoor. Isolated rainfall is predicted for Rayalaseema. In Coastal AP, Srikakulam and Prakasam recorded deficit rainfall. It was normal in East Godavari and excess in all other districts.
