CPM set to reap big organic harvest for Onam
Kochi: CPM district committee will ready 800 tonnes of organic vegetables and 164 stalls to sell them in the district during Onam.
CPM district secretary P Rajeev said at a press conference that these large amounts of organic vegetable will be readied as part of the commitment of the party to provide pesticide-free vegetables to the public. He said that a total of 500 kg of seeds and 2.5 lakh seedlings have been distributed to achieve the goal.
The district-level inauguration of the planting will be done on June 22 at 4 pm at Thammanm Felix Road. Film director Roshan Andrews, former district collector K R Viswambharan, SH College Principal Fr Prashanth, journalist A Sehadevan and EDRAAC president Rangadasa Prabhu will attend the event. Area and local level festivals too will be held in the day. Cultivation will be done in six acres in each local committee area, Rajeev said.
Rajeev also said that the delay in implementing the Metro Rail project should be avoided by bringing DMRC, KMRL and their contractors to one table so as to sort out issues. Rajeev said that any shortage in labourers can be addressed by holding talks with the unions.
“We will not allow the present attempt to end the Metro works at Palarivattom. It should be taken to the originally scheduled end point,” Rajeev said.
