It could have big implications for developing countries
London: A new research has found a novel compound, DDD107498, that can actually treat malaria in a single dose and protect people from the disease and prevent infection being transmitted.
The research conducted by Dundee University, Scotland explained that the newly developed drug could work well against parasites resistant to current treatments of the mosquito-borne disease, the BBC reported.
The researchers of university's Drug Discovery Unit and the Medicines for Malaria Venture mentioned that would target part of the machinery that makes proteins within the parasite that causes malaria.
Dr Kevin Read, joint leader of the project, said that the development of a new drug was urgently needed and this compound would work in a different way to all other anti-malarial medicines in the market.
Dr David Reddy, CEO of Medicines for Malaria Venture asserted that DDD107498 was an exciting compound since it holds the promise to not only treats, but also to protect vulnerable populations.
The research is published in the journal 'Nature'.
