THE NEXT NEXUS: Google’s confirmed to be working with Huawei
In a new move to the next Google Nexus smartphone manufacturing, Huwaei seems to have bagged the contract. IBTimes has confirmed that the Chinese smartphone manufacturer will be working closely with Google to manufacture the next Nexus in the series.
In a bid to make its presence bigger in the US smartphone market, the Chinese smartphone market manufacturer Huawei has been reported to be developing the next Nexus for Google. Previously, Samsung, HTC, Motorola and LG were the usual names in the Nexus series. The news was confirmed as a source familiar with Huawei's plans has told IBTimes UK.
The source has not managed to give any details on the specifications of the device or the shipping time frame. IBTimes has also confirmed that Google is working together with LG to make a second Nexus device (possibly a phablet or a tablet). This is the first time that Google is working closely with two smartphone giants for the Nexus series. Reports stated that the Nexus will be a 5.7-incher and will sport the Snapdragon 810 chipset from Qualcomm.
Partnering with Google will help boost the Chinese smartphone manufacturer in the US, but it may face a roadblock in China, since the Google products, such as Gmail, Maps, and Search are presently banned in China. Sources also told IBTimes that Huawei will work something out to sell the Nexus in China. This is a big move for Google since the tech giant’s products are banned in the country. Presently, Google Play is available in China, but is only restricted to free apps. Google’s Play Store presently faces tough competition in China since there are numerous third-party app stores in China.
Google’s Sundar Pichai also mentioned at the Google I/O event held in May 2015 that the company is looking forward to returning back to China, which will be a huge boon to Google’s business.
IBTimes further reported that Google and Huawei have not yet confirmed anything on this topic and refused to comment.
