Police says rapist jumped to death

He allegedly jumped from the flyover, which is 30-ft high
Rajahmundry: On June 18, the rape victim’s family, who were on the lookout for the girl, noticed a foul smell coming from the alleged rapist Suresh’s house and upon searching, they found the naked body of the girl in a trunk.
They alerted the police who in turn altered the case and booked Suresh under Section 302 and 201 of IPC at the Eluru rural police station. As Suresh was absconding, the family members, villagers and police were on the lookout for him. Police despatched special teams to Chennai, Krishna and Guntur districts to look for him.
On Friday, the villagers who found Suresh. They beat him severely. In a bid to escape the mob, Suresh ran to a flyover near the Old Bus Stand at Eluru town. He allegedly jumped from the flyover, which is 30-ft high, and died. Another version states that the irate villagers threw him from the flyover.
When the police tried to take away the body, angry villagers stopped the jeep, pulled out the body and trampled on it. One version says that Suresh was alive when the villagers dragged him out and trampled him till he died.
Later, the body was shifted to the government hospital at Eluru for post-mortem. Eluru Two Town police has booked a case under Section 174 of IPC dealing with suspicious death. West Godavari SP Bhaskar Bhushan said, “When the police spotted the rape suspect Suresh on a flyover, he jumped to escape and died. When our personnel were shifting the body to the hospital, irate villagers stopped the vehicle, pulled out the body and trampled on it.” APHRC president Muppala Subba Rao, said, “Nobody should take the law in their own hands.”
