Watch: Sabine Lisicki is the new queen of aces
Birmingham (England): Big-serving German Sabine Lisicki blasted 27 aces in her second round Birmingham triumph over Belinda Bencic on Wednesday, a new record for a WTA tournament.
Former Wimbledon finalist Lisicki hit 16 aces in the first set and 11 more in the second set to enter the record books for most aces in one match.
“It’s nice to have another record,” said the 25-year-old German after her 6-1, 7-6 (7/4) win over the Swiss teenager.
The previous record for aces in one match was held by Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi, who hit 24 in a match in Tokyo in 2008, and Serena Williams also unleashed 24 aces in one Wimbledon tie in 2012.

Sania-Dellacqua crash out
In women’s doubles, playing with new partner Casey Dellacqua in the absence of Martina Hingis, World No.1 Sania Mirza crashed out following a shocking straight set defeat on Wednesday.
The top-seeded Indo-Australian pair lost 4-6, 2-6 to unseeded pair of Jie Zheng and Yung-Jan Chan in the opening round. Sania and Dellacqua could not convert any of the four break chances they got in the match and that played an important role in the outcome of the match.
The top seeds surrendered their serve thrice during the course of a forgettable match.Hingis could not play in this tournament with Sania for some personal reasons but will be back for next week’s event in Eastbourne and then at the Wimbledon.
