Sachin Tendulkar’s ‘Bharat Ratna’ in trouble

Madhya Pradesh High Court admits PIL against cricket icon

Mumbai: Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar’s glory has run into rough waters. According to reports, Madhya Pradesh High Court has admitted a PIL on Thursday against the iconic cricketer for mishandling his ‘Bharat Ratna’.

His omnipresence in commercials led to the appeal.

The high court has also assigned director assistant solicitor general to enquire whether the former India cricketer is breaching Supreme Court guidelines by endorsing products.

Tendulkar was awarded Bharat Ratna ahead of hockey legend Dhyan Chand and is allegedly not keeping up to the honour of the highest civilian award.

VK Naswah, the Bhopal-based petitioner, said Tendulkar being present across all endorsements is uncomfortable and not acceptable by many in the country.

He added that Tendulkar should return the ‘Bharat Ratna’ on moral grounds.

The cricketer, who retired from all forms of the sport in November 2013, is the face for more than 12 brands including Aviva Life Insurance, MRF.
