5 reasons why India lost to Bangladesh in first ODI
Mumbai: The Tigers kept up to the promotional advertisement that did the rounds ahead of the ODI series against India. They beat the visitors comfortably by 79 runs in the first fixture in Mirpur on Thursday. What could be the factors that led to India’s downfall? Let’s find out.

Mustafizur’s magnificent debut: The left-arm seamer ran through the Indian middle order and came back stronger after his on-field collision with India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He was one of those wounded tigers in the jungle who ended up with a fifer.
Confident start by Bangla openers: Tamim Iqbal (60) and Soumya Sarkar (54) put on 102 runs for the first wicket. As they say, morning shows the day. There was no looking back for the hosts after a solid start. Mohit Sharma ended up conceding 53 of his 4.4 overs. Even Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar leaked runs.
The lost MSD touch: The Indian captain – known for finishing games – haven’t been doing so in the recent past. Though he took Team India to the semifinal of the ICC World Cup and his Indian Premier League franchise Chennai Super Kings to the final of the T20 tournament, his bat did not do much talking. Here, he scored only 5.
Virat Kohli’s failure: The star Indian batsman could not rewrite the script of his World Cup debacle against Bangladesh. Even on Thursday, he went back early scoring a run. This time, it was Taskin Ahmed who did the trick.
Mashrafe’s captaincy: The Bangladesh captain marshalled his troops wisely and even contributed with the bat (21 off 18) down the order when wickets kept tumbling. His move of going with four pace bowlers worked and they together picked up eight wickets for 160 runs in 31.2 overs.
