Released Cyberabad prisoners counselled
Hyderabad: Every month, at least 100 criminals from Cyberabad commissionerate get released from the two central prisons in the city.
The department’s job technically ends after prosecuting them, but the cops do not stop there. Whenever criminals are released they conduct counselling for them and their families.
“The counselling with families are effective as criminals are vulnerable in front of their kin. They will think of their kids,” said a senior official. “We have counselled 600 persons this year. Most of them respond positively,” said CCS DCP Dr B. Naveen Kumar. After the first counselling session, the cops call them again to see if they are ready to take up jobs.
The police said that efforts to reform criminals would continue as the experiment has proved effective. “Prevention of crime is as important as detection,” said Cyderabad police commisioner C.V. Anand.
