K Chandrasekhar Rao braves jinx, visits Vemulawada temple

Mr Rao usually relies on the guidance of the Chinna Jeeyar

KARIMNAGAR: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao braved a jinx and visited the Raja Rajeshwara temple at Vemulawada on Thursday. There is a popular belief that CMs lose power after visiting the temple.

Mr Rao spent almost seven hours at the temple along with family members. He is only the fourth Chief Minister to visit the temple; it is believed that his predecessors T. Anjaiah, K. Vijaya Bhaskara Reddy and N.T Rama Rao lost power after visiting the temple.

But then, visiting the temple did not affect P.V. Narasimha Rao, who became Prime Minister. During the election campaign last year, Mr Chandrasekhar Rao had criticised successive governments for ignoring the temple. He promised to restore the temple to its glory if voted to power.

Sources said Mr Rao visited the temple on the advice of Tridandi Ramanuja Chinna Jeeyar, who had offered prayers there on June 8. The seer does not usually visit Shivaite temples, but spent a few hours and offered prayers., the source said.

Mr Rao usually relies on the guidance of the Chinna Jeeyar. “This was Mr Rao’s attempt to trash the belief that visiting the temple brings CMs ill luck. Mr Rao brought along his daughter K. Kavita. If she gets a gets a berth in the Union Cabinet, he will have proved that there is no jinx associated with the temple,” the source said.

Mr Rao visited another temple located on a hillock near Vemulawada after performing prayers at the Raja Rajeshwara temple.
