Centre busy, Chandrababu Naidu gets relief for now
NDA focus on Sushma, Vasundhara case
Hyderabad: The Centre is too caught up with the Lalit Modi-Sushma Swaraj-Vasundhara Raje fiasco to concentrate on the ongoing Andhra Pradesh-Telangana row.
Neither the TD government’s clamouring for imposing Section 8, nor the TS government’s aggressive pursuing of the Revanth Reddy cash-for-vote case has attracted the Centre’s attention.
“The BJP-led government is fully engrossed in the Lalit Modi issue. As a national party, they get reports from all states, but these are not the priority now,” sources in New Delhi revealed. “Moreover, nothing can be done by the Centre at this juncture now. Law and order is a state subject and the matter is already in courts and with the investigation agencies. Any involvement will damage the party’s image as well,” sources said.
The state BJP unit concurs. “When it is already under investigation, there is nothing we can say now. Let the facts come out. The forensic lab is examining everything, let it give its report,” said Ms D. Purandeswari, former minister and BJP leader.
“Vajpayee government fell for want of one vote. Though there is a possibility of buying MPs, BJP did not do so as the party believes in ethics and values. It never resorted to horse-trading,” she said, adding, “Section 8 is an issue concerning law and order of Hyderabad. We hope the Governor will act according to the Act,” she said.
BJP minister in Mr Chandrababu Naidu’s government, Mr Kamineni Srinivas, said the Centre would not get involved in a row between two governments. "The onus of resolving the issue rests with the Governor and the Centre has no role to play. Since Hyderabad is the common capital, both state governments have the right to stay in the city. If Section 8 is not implemented properly, there is no value for Section 5 (Hyderabad as a common capital) and it should be removed," he remarked.
