Radio body AROI backs Red FM
Hyderabad: AROI, an industry body of Indian radio operators, has expressed concern over the home ministry’s reported reluctance to issue security clearance for renewing licence of Red FM as it is a part of the Kalanidhi Maran led Sun Group.“The denial of licence to Radio FM could result in closure of over 45 stations being operated in the country.
This would result in loss of employment of a few thousand direct employees in over 45 cities and towns in India,” Uday Chawla, secretary-general of AROI, said in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Association of Radio Operators in India (AROI) has also expressed surprise over the grounds for denial of licence. “These stations are facing closure, due to a pending investigation against the major shareholder. Denial of security clearance without a court conviction would create a dangerous precedent,” he wrote.
