No more seats for Civils exam in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Hyderabad has run out of space, before 70 other cities in the country, for UPSC aspirants who are to appear for the preliminary exams. Candidates applying to appear for the civil services exam can no longer select Hyderabad as a test centre as it is already overbooked. Applications to the preliminary exam close on Friday, and test centres are allotted on first-come first-serve basis.
The preliminary exam will be held in 71 cities across the country on August 23, including three cities in AP. In Telangana, there is just Hyderabad where the exam will be held. Brain Tree director V. Gopalkrishna said about 50,000 aspirants from both TS and AP are likely to appear for the Civil services prelims this year. In its notification, the UPSC had said, “There will be a ceiling on the number of candidates allotted to each of the centres, except Chennai, Dispur, Kolkata and Nagpur. Allotment of centres will be on ‘first-apply-first-allot’ basis, and once the capacity of a particular centre is attained, the same will be frozen.”
Considering the high number of aspirants appearing for the exam this year, Hyderabad hit the ceiling before any other city. It was followed by Pune. The remaining 69 test centres in the country are still available for selection to appear for the exam.
UPSC had notified the Civil services prelims in May to fill about 1,129 posts across 24 categories of Civil services.
