CCTV cameras to come up at major tourist spots in Kerala

The installation of cameras is progressing
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state police will install surveillance cameras at all the major tourists spots in the state to ensure the security of tourists. Initially, video surveillance will be made at Ponmudi, Kumarakom, Thekkady, Munnar and Vythiri. The installation of cameras is progressing and the project is likely to be commissioned at Kumarakom and Munnar in a couple of months.
“We are chalking out many steps to scale up the security at tourist places,” ADGP headquarters Mr. Arunkumar Sinha told DC. To begin with, 12 surveillance cameras each with rotation and night vision capability are being installed by Keltron at the five tourist spots. “They will have facility for backing up data for up to one month,” said Keltron communication - project manager, Mr S.P. Gopakumar.
Control rooms will be attached to the nearby police stations. District police chiefs will be in charge of the surveillance system in their respective districts. Incidents of eve-teasing, pick-pocketing and extortions were rampant in many tourist spots. The surveillance cameras could be a deterrent against such incidents, police sources said.
