Volvo eyes luxury hatch mart
Hyderabad: Slowly firming its grip over the premium car market in India, Volvo made a pan-India launch of V40 on Wednesday in Hyderabad. Launching two years after introducing its V40 Crossover in the country, the car will be competing with BMW series 1 and Mercedes-Benz B-class. Speaking on the sidelines of the launch, Volvo India managing director Tom von Bonsdorff said, “The car is very affordably priced and several new features have been added including first-of-its-kind windsheild airbag incase a person is hit by the car.”
The vehicle’s base model, V40 Kinetic is priced at Rs 24.75 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and V40 R-Design at Rs 27.7 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). “We plan to gradually expand our network and will be opening an outlet in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh by August-December of this financial year,” Mr Bonsdorff said.
The company will also be launching its SUV XC 90 in the latter part of the year and will be priced from Rs 64.92 to Rs 77.9 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Last year, it sold 400 Volvo units in Andhra Pradesh and TS combined.
