RTC proposes fare hike
Rajahmundry: In order to overcome the revenue loss and to imp-lement enhanced wages to the RTC employees to the tune of 43 per cent fitment beginning from August 1, RTC proposes to enhance the fare in the state.
RTC managing director N. Sambasiva Rao told newsmen here on Tuesday that RTC incurred revenue loss to the tune of Rs 595 crore in the last year and the implementation of enhanced wages to the employees would cost Rs 40 crore per month. He said that they were yet to take the proposal of fare hike to the notice of the Chief Minister and added that in case they get permission, they would enha-nce fare without affecting the commoners.
Referring to the arrangements for the ensuing Godavari Pushkaralu, the RTC MD said that they were planing to operate as many as 1,800 buses including 300 city buses free of charge. The MD assured to provide wi-fi facility at RTC bus stations located in district headquarters and also in Rajahmundry in addition to providing air-condioned lounges for commuters travelling by AC buses.
