Parents demand NIA probe into girl’s death

Shylaja and Ashok Kumar said there was no possibility of their daughter committing suicide

KOCHI: Parents of Anuja have demanded a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the death of their daughter while living with her friend at Kalamassery here last month.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday along with leaders of a recently-formed action committee, Shylaja and Ashok Kumar said there was no possibility of their daughter committing suicide.

Anuja, a postgraduate student of Maharaja’s College, was found dead in a rented house at Unichira on May 15, following which the police arrested her friend Khaleem.

Shylaja said promise of a business partnership was the basis of their relationship and she herself took the initiative to get the house for them.

Action committee chairman N. Saji Kumar alleged that it was a “premeditated murder” by some religious extremists and that the local police was trying to hush it up.

“The probe has reached nowhere, even after a month,” he said. “Only an agency like NIA will help bring out the truth”.
