Cash-for-vote scam: Chandrababu Naidu tape hits dubsmash

The audio is also being used by some people to create Dubsmash video

Vijayawada: Ever since the audiotape of the alleged conversation between AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson was aired on news channels in the two states, a three-word phrase has become popular among the people.

The phrase ‘Manavallu briefed me’ (Our people briefed me), allegedly uttered by Mr Naidu in the leaked audiotape, has caught the attention of the social media.

Telangana IT minister K.T. Rama Rao’s comment that “No one would use such dual language except Mr Naidu” too made the dialogue popular.

The audio is also being used by some people to create Dubsmash video. Dubsmash is a video messaging app allowing users to record a video of themselves in which they can dub an audio recording of a popular quote or song.

Facebook pages were started with the title ‘Mavavallu briefed me’ exposing the lighter side of the cash-for vote issue. A Facebook page called Political Punches came up with a remixed ringtone with the phrase.

The ringtone consists of western music mixed with the phrase ‘Manavallu briefed me’. A spoof of the tape also surfaced on WhatsApp. TD said it would book cases against people behind the campaign.
