MRPL emissions leave people in coast frowning
Bengaluru: Coastal district ministers in the Siddaramaiah cabinet are under fire for not taking any action against Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) which is allegedly causing environmental hazards in the district.
Nagarikara Horata Samitte of Mangaluru convener Muneer Katipalla told reporters here on Tuesday, that Environment and Forests minister Ramanath Rai, Urban Development minister Vinay Kumar Sorake and Mangaluru MP Nalinkumar Kateel are not take any action against MRPL, which causes environmental hazards.
Petcoke and sulphur units of MRPL are causing health and environmental problems in the district. While producing petcoke, MRPL releases ash. Due to the release of ash, students and residents have developed health related problem, Mr Katipalla alleged.
Though a representation has given to the minister concerned, no action has been taken yet. Mr. Rai and Sorake had colluded with MRPL, he alleged.
