Madras HC asks government to notify guidelines on playschools

It directed the govt to notify guidelines for regulating playschools by July 22
Chennai: The Madras high court on Tuesday directed the Tamil Nadu Government to notify guidelines for regulating playschools in the state by July 22. A division bench comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice T.S. Sivagnanam gave the directive while passing orders on a Public Interest Litigation filed by advocate R. Balasubramaniam of Villivakkam.
When the case came up for hearing on Tuesday, special government pleader D. Krishnakumar produced a copy of the draft guidelines before the court.
After going through the draft guidelines, the bench asked as to why play schools and pre-KG schools, which handle three-year-old children, required play grounds. What such schools required was a play area. Regular schools themselves had no proper play grounds, the bench pointed out.
The bench then directed the state government to invite opinion from public as well as private play schools on the draft guidelines. The stake holders concerned were directed to file their opinion/objections if any by June 22 to the government. The government after due consideration of the opinion/objections should publish the final guidelines by July 22, the bench added.
