French gendarme lauds Tamil Nadu police's swift action
Police arrested assailants within hours after the French national working in Chennai was robbed
Chennai: A French police station commandant wrote to his counterparts in Chennai applauding them for the quick arrest in the case where his son was robbed while strolling on a city beach a few days back. The Thiruvanmayur police arrested assailants within hours after the French national working in Chennai was robbed of his bag after attacking him.
“As a police officer I know the difficulty to solve this kind of case. Sincerely thanks a lot to the investigators,” station commandant Major A Yves of French Genedarmerie, the part of French armed force in charge of public safety, said in an email sent to the Chennai city police commissioner.
My son was attacked by six men and robbed while jogging on the beach and within less than 24 hours the police arrested them and recovered items. Congratulation for the excellent work and result, he added in his mail.
His son M.Arnaud in Chennai, who is yet to get over the incident too noted that the police had done a good job on the second day when he explained very precisely where the crime happened and the profile of attackers to find them. “I thank the police for that,” he said in an e-mail.
But he added that nobody came to help him when he screamed and after the crime, local residents laughed at him instead of helping him. The French expat further doubted that the case might not have been solved as fast if he was an Indian. And the newspapers would not have covered the incident if he were an Indian, he added. According to him he was well welcomed in India and never felt insecure in the country.
“I have met so many nice people in India and this incident will not make me change my mind. These men, who attacked me were young, poor and uneducated and they saw an easy target. It is universal and not Indian. I knew these men did not attack me as a person but as a property holder and only wanted this property,” he added.
