Hyderabad: The Union HRD ministry will have to update its web-counselling software because of the 60 supernumerary seats added to the National Institute of Technology, Warangal, this year for AP students. Officials said this is the first time that the web-counselling software is being updated because it doesn’t have provision for supernumerary seats.
This is the first time supernumerary seats are being added to any NIT in the country. In a relief to AP students, the AP government was informed that the 480 seats of NIT-Eluru will also be available for counselling.
The 480 sanctioned seats of NIT-Eluru and the 60 supernumerary seats of NIT-Warangal were missing from the seat matrix released by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority recently. AP HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao sought clarifications from NIT-Warangal and Union HRD ministry authorities on Monday.
Probably because they were sanctioned very recently, there was a technical issue. But parents and students need not worry,” said Dr T Srinivasa Rao, director, NIT Warangal and mentor director NIT Eluru. An AP HRD official said the JoSAA web-counselling software will be updated in a day or two.
