BBMP takes up dengue control drive
Bengaluru: With the onset of monsoon, diseases such as dengue and chikungunya are spreading in the city and health experts are warning of a malaria outbreak. So far, 159 dengue and 29 chikungunya cases have been reported.
Of them, 20 cases of dengue are from CV Raman Nagar alone. Despite the alarming situation, garbage piles in the city still remain unattended and sewage continues to overflow from drains.
Dr Manoranjan Hegde, Chief Health Officer, BBMP, said, “We are taking measures regularly. We have stationed three gang members in each ward and four gang members on the city outskirts. These gang members spray chemicals and clear stagnant water. We have two vehicles in each assembly constituency for spraying.”
Dr Naveen, BBMP project coordinator, National Vector-Borne Disease Control Programme, said, “We are conducting awareness programmes. Good news is that we have not received any malaria cases or dengue deaths. Many cases have been reported from CV Raman Nagar as it has many lakes and open spaces which are breeding space for mosquitoes.”
