Telangana MLAs in Delhi to lobby for land

The team also requested the removal of night restrictions of AOC roads till alternative routes are made available

Hyderabad: A team of city legislators who had gone to Delhi, lobbied with Union defence minister Manohar Parrikar to hand over the Bison Polo Ground for the Secretariat.

The delegation also discussed the possibility of constructing a road-over-bridge, starting from Jubilee Bus Station at Secunderabad, that would link the Karimnagar Highway starting at Alwal and Rajiv Rahadari.

This would pass through the AOC area. The team also requested the removal of night restrictions of AOC roads till alternative routes are made available.

Speaking from Delhi, Malkajgiri MLA C. Kanaka Reddy said the defence minister had invited legislators and GHMC officials to visit Delhi in the first week of July to discuss the Cantonment roads and a permanent solution for the Army’s restrictions on roads.

The legislators are part of a 16-member Swachh Hyderabad team that will check out sanitation and garbage disposal systems in Delhi.

The delegation is led by Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali and transport minister Mahender Reddy.

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had asked the team to meet Mr Parrikar and take forward the issue of acquiring the Bison Polo Grounds for the new Secretariat.

The state is also seeking additional funds from the Centre for the two-bedroom apartment project to make it a reality before the GHMC elections.

The team will meet Union minister Venkaiah Naidu on June 16 for the purpose, and also brief him on Swachh Hyderabad programme.

Meanwhile, GHMC is to conduct the second round of Swachh Hyderabad on June 17.
