Secunderabad Cantonment Board snaps 6,000 water lines
Hyderabad: The SCB has disconnected 6,000 illegal water connections and another 15,000 are expected to be disconnected soon.
Sources say that there are several consumers who have not been paying water bills for 30 years. The SCB has completed door to door inspections in Ward 1 and is currently inspecting Ward 2. The Board has also come up with an attractive scheme to legalise water supply.
Zafar Hussain, a resident of Bowenpally, said, “Even after paying water bills every month, we are not getting sufficient water. The VIPs in the area might be getting sufficient water and hence they are not complaining against SCB. The task force of SCB must visit the areas when water is being supplied to curb illegal pumps. Since the water supply in the area is once in a week, water tankers are a frequent sight in the area. The entire summer we had to manage with tankers, but the problem is not yet over. SCB is busy supplying water to commercial establishments and is least bothered about water supply to households.”
Also, there is illegal drilling of borewells going on in SCB area. Even through the SCB has reduced the amount for drilling permissions, people are still drilling borewells without paying anything to the SCB, complained the authorities.
As per the new ruling, a legal drilling permission comes for Rs 1,000 for colonies and Rs 500 for slums, said an assistant engineer.
