Lucknow: A journalist who was brutally assaulted, tied to a motorcycle and dragged for more than 100 metres in Pilibhit district on Sunday evening, said on Monday that he was targeted for exposing some dubious land deals in the area.
The journalist, Haider Khan, is admitted in a hospital in critical condition. “On Sunday, around 6 pm, I got a call saying that the eye witness in a robbery case has met with an accident and I should come to rescue him. When I reached at the spot, I was surrounded by some three-four people. They then started beating me up and hit me with a revolver on my head and dragged me for 100 meters from a car,” the journalist said.
U.P. shields minister in Scribe murder case:
The UP government on Monday, refused to initiate action against UP minister Ram Murti Varma unless he was proven guilty of burning a journalist. Sumer Singh, father of journalist Jangedra Singh, meanwhile, sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking CBI probe into the gruesome incident.
Senior SP minister Shivpal Singh said at a press conference on Monday that there was no question of removing the minister from his post, unless he was found guilty investigations.
Stoking the controversy, UP horticulture minister Paras Nath Yadav described the incident as “law of the nature.” “There are some incidents which are pre-decided,” he said.
