RK Nagar Bypoll: AIADMK expects to win by huge margin
Chennai: For AIADMK leaders, results of the R K Nagar bypoll scheduled for June 27 are clear. Their candidate, J. Jayalalithaa, Chief Minister, will win by a huge margin, but what remains a mystery to them is the winning margin of their leader and the polling percentage.
If party sources are to be believed R K Nagar with 2.47 lakh voters will record a polling of nothing less than 90 per cent. The top 50 honchos appointed by the party, who include state ministers, as the party poll organisers are now working on poll arithmetic. If their calculations are correct, polling will cross 90 per cent and Ms Jayalalithaa will have the largest margin in the history of Tamil Nadu by-elections.
A strong territorial marking and sleepless nights are now becoming common among AIADMK seniors as party cadres are gearing up for the next week’s campaign by Ms Jayalalithaa. On Monday, the party second rung leaders, who include councillors, divisional secretaries and MLAs, were focused on the reception, crowd management and campaign route for the party supremo.
Meanwhile, Chennai District Collector E. Sundaravalli and other poll officials are periodically conducting campaigns to raise awareness in voters about the need to exercise their franchise. This is because during general elections in 2011 and 2006 and the last Lok Sabha polls, R.K.Nagar had always recorded a polling percentage between 47 to 55.
