KOZHIKODE: The Kondotty police team investigating the CISF-airport staff stand-off at the Calicut International Airport that claimed the life of a CISF jawan last week, arrested the prime accused in the case on Monday.

Police recorded the arrest of Aji Kumar, a supervisor with the fire authority at the airport, when he got discharged from a private hospital here.

Police said it was Aji Kumar who started off the clash with the CISF personnel at the airport at Karipur on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Sunny Thomas, senior fire superintendent, also an accused who was critically injured in the clash, has been shifted to Medical College hospital for advanced treatment.

The police team is awaiting a report from ballistic experts to get more clarity on the firing that killed S. S. Yadav.

So far, the investigation team has arrested 11 fire authority staff for initiating the clashes. The arrested was charged with Sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 332 (voluntarily causing hurt and deter public servant from his duty) of the CrPC.

The police has not booked a case of culpable homicide against any CISF personnel so far.

ADGP Shanker Reddy said the CISF personnel were booked for damaging public property. He said the airport staff had requested security from state police and he had asked them to give a request in writing.

“We had posted our men in some places inside the airport immediately after the clashes. It was done to give a sense of security to the airport staff. They asked me to keep our personnel at airport for a longer duration and I have asked them to give us a request in writing,” the ADGP said.

Once he gets the request, he said, the same would be forwarded to the DGP and action taken as per DGP’s directions.
