Vijayawada: In a significant development in city politics, brothers Donepudi Kasinath and Donepudi Shankar have become secretaries for CPM and CPI city units. While Mr Shankar was appointed as CPI city secretary several days ago, Mr Kasinath recently got the post with CPM leadership responsibilities.
How will the duo run the show in city politics has turned into an interesting topic as the strength of the two parties has been deteriorating for the last several years. The two brothers have been in city politics for the last several years. Earlier they were elected as corporators from their representing parties. However, now they have been appointed as secretaries for city CPM and CPI units.
At present, CPM has one corporator in the local municipal corporation but there is no representation for CPI. There was a time when CPI ruled the corporation two times and party leaders were also elected as MLAs. Similarly, CPM had once upon a time a stronghold in city. Several leaders were elected for the assembly from CPM in Krishna district. However, over the years both the parties have lost ground in the city.
