Maggi ban: Unemployed Nestle India worker commits suicide in Uttarakhand
Mumbai: A contract worker of Nestle India, Lalta Prasad, who worked at its Rudrapur plant in Uttarakhand ended his life on Monday. Prasad who was working at the plant from past two years, is survived by his wife and 2 children.
According to police sources, Prasad did not open the door of his room on Monday. Later his body was found hanging from a ceiling fan.
After Maggi controversy broke out, almost 1,000 workers lost their jobs in the state. Maggi was banned in Uttarakhand last month when samples of the popular food product failed laboratory tests.

"A decision to ban the sale of Maggi was taken in public interest by the Food Security Department as 2 of a 300 odd samples of the food product failed laboratory tests," Principal Secretary Health Om Prakash said.
The decision was prompted by the presence of monosodium glutamate (MSG) in the samples sent for laboratory tests to Rudrapur in Udhamsingh Nagar district, he said.
