Bengaluru: Two muggers who robbed cyclist held

The duo had targeted those commuting alone during odd hours

BENGALURU: Taking note of a report in Deccan Chronicle on June 7, the police have arrested two car-borne miscreants, who had attacked and robbed 26-year-old cyclist and techie, Lentin Varghese near Electronics City.

Deccan Chronicle in its report, ‘Pedal at your own risk in city’, had said that a gang was active on Hosur Road late at night robbing people by brandishing lethal weapons. After the report was published, the police had asked Mr Varghese to file a complaint and based on that, arrested the two – Kumarswamy, 31, a resident of Kudlu, and Arul, 32, a resident of Hommadevanahalli. The police recovered valuables worth over Rs 4.25 lakh from them.

The duo, who drove around in a red Fiat car, had targeted those commuting alone during odd hours in Electronics City and Parappana Agrahara police limits. The duo waylaid their victims and threatened them with lethal weapons, before assaulting and robbing them.

After the Deccan Chronicle report, the Parappana Agrahara police found that the duo had committed a similar crime on the night of June 6 at the Mysuru Road Junction near Mills House.

Based on the information provided by the victims, the police detained the accused, who confessed to the crime. The police recovered a knife, a red Fiat car used to commit the crime, two mobile phones, Rs 1,500 cash and an LED television set.
