Kangana’s back to playing a sassy rebel
In Nikhil Advani’s Katti Batti, Kangana Ranaut is seen doing what she does best — play the sassy non-conformist. She wore a towel to meet her cousin’s prospective in-laws in Tanu Weds Manu Returns and in Katti Batti, she refers to a male anatomical part as the ‘little soldier’ while reprimanding Imran Khan’s character for not “aiming at the pot”. In another scene, she hands a packet of condoms to her prospective landlord saying she and her partner are trying to have children. Kangana’s character in parts resembles Tanu. But isn’t she doing the non-conformist roles a little too often?
Director Nikhil Advani says that the film is nothing like Kangana’s Queen or TWM. “She is far more urban here. And with her chic hairstyle, I’d like to believe she has never looked more sophisticated. Her language is also very different. She speaks a lot of English in the film and speaks it well. When the film came to me from UTV, I was stumped. The plot was so real and ravishing that I didn’t have to think twice about doing it.”
