Inflation is still in negative zone

Inflation had contracted by 2.65 per cent in April

New Delhi: Inflation based on wholesale price index (WPI) contracted by 2.36 per cent in May, making it seventh straight month when inflation has stayed in negative zone.

Food inflation in May came at 3.8 per cent against 5.73 per cent in April despite irregular rains earlier. Vegetables inflation contracted by 5.54 per cent in May against a contraction of 1.32 per cent in April. Potato prices crashed contracting by 51.95 per cent in May. However pulses prices rose by 22.84 per cent in May and onion by 20.41 per cent.

Inflation had contracted by 2.65 per cent in April.
