Eluru, Warangal NITs left in the lurch over seats
Hyderabad: The new NIT at Eluru does not figure in the seat matrix issued by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). The seat matrix for NIT Warangal also does not anything about the 60 supernumerary seats to be offered to AP students. According to the seat matrix, NIT Warangal will have 740 seats, the same as last year, in eight branches. Half these seats were to be reserved for students of Telangana, but that too has been stated.
AP HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao spoke to officials on the omission and said the state government would speak to the Union HRD ministry. He said he had spoken to officials at NIT Warangal— the mentor institute of NIT Eluru—and the issue would be sorted out by Monday. “NIT Warangal authorities have said they had sent all the details to the Centre. They said they will look into the issue,” Mr Rao said.
Interestingly, the updated business rules of the JoSAA do mention NIT Andhra Pradesh as one of the participating institutions in the upcoming counselling, subject to the seat matrix being confirmed. Recently, Mr Srinivasa Rao announced that the Centre had confirmed 480 seats to NIT Eluru and 60 supernumerary seats in NIT Warangal for AP students.
