Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre opened at Nagapattinam
Nagapattinam: Mr Justice M M Sundaresh of the Madras high court said people’s faith in the judiciary will increase if pending cases, especially those of civil nature, were settled in an expeditious manner.
Declaring open the Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre (ADRC) at Nagapattinam on Sunday, Mr Sundaresh said it was up to both the bench and the bar to safeguard the faith on the judiciary among the people.
Observing that another 200 years may be needed to clear the pending cases in various courts across the country, the Judge said the ADRC would help find solutions to disputes quickly and help to settle cases amicably.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Justice T Mathivanan of the Madras high court pointed out that pending cases were increasing in Tamil Nadu day-by-day. Till March 2015, there were 6.20 lakh civil cases and 10.45 lakh criminal cases pending before various court of Tamil Nadu, he added.
He said the verdict of the ADRC could not be taken up for appeal even before the Supreme court and the findings of the ADRC must be implemented at any cost. Members of the Nagapattinam Bar association including its president A. Udhayakumar, participated in the function. They urged construction of an integrated court complex in Nagapattinam.
In his reply, Mr Justice S. Tamilvanan of Madras high court said the earmarked present site here was not suitable for the construction of an integrated court complex. The project could be taken up if authorities earmark alternate site of 15 acres, he said.
Earlier, Principal district and sessions judge K Sivakumar welcomed the gathering while Chief judicial magistrate P. R. Ramakrishnan proposed a vote of thanks.
