BHIMAVARAM: An 80-year-old woman was raped in Bhima-varam town in West Godavari district on Saturday night. The perpetrator was her 30-year-old neighbour, Puvvada Kumar.
Bhimavaram police said that the victim’s granddaughter had gone to the first floor of the house, leaving the old woman behind.
When she returned, she could not find her. She began searching for her and went to Kumar’s house. Kumar was stated to be nervous and did not allow her into the house. She forcefully entered the house and found her grandmother on the bed.
She immediately went to the police station, which is about 1 km away, and lodged a complaint that her grandmother was allegedly raped by Kumar.
The police sent the woman to the government hospital for medical tests. She has since returned home and her condition is stated to be stable. According to sources, the victim was suffering from psychological symptoms.
Kumar is married and has two children. His family had gone to a neighbouring village. The accused is still absconding under Section 376 (rape) and is investigating.
