Vijayawada becomes a part of the change

Teach For Change initiative officially launched in the city

Vijayawada: Actress Manchu Lakshmi launched the Teach for Change programme, an initiative supported by Deccan Chronicle, in Vijayawada on Saturday.

Teach for Change, a voluntary organisation founded by M.R.S.K. Chaitanya, has over 1,000 volunteers who extend support to impart leadership skills and teach English language in about 100 schools in Hyderabad and is expanding its base to other cities in South India.

The initiative, in collaboration with Samana Institute of Fashion Technology(SIFT), has now entered Vijayawada for the sake of children in Government schools in and around the city.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms Lakshmi called upon the citizens of Vijayawada to join the cause and support the initiative.

“I believe in making this initiative reach every household in the city as it would help students in government schools develop their skills,” Ms Lakshmi said.

She asked the youngsters to spend just two hours a week at the schools in their localities and make the initiative a success.

Also present on the occasion, Congress youth leader D. Avinash said he would help the cause by asking employees in his businesses and other youngsters to register with TFC.

While SIFT CEO Samana Moosavi has been appointed as president of Teach for Change, Vijayawada, Yesaswini P. will be project head in the city.

Central MLA's son B. Siddharta, representatives from ALEAP and others were present at the launch.
