Tamil Nadu CM opens Rs 527 crore worth infrastructure buildings
Aims to help poor in field of education
Chennai: Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa inaugurated and laid foundation stones for Rs 527.97 crore worth government college and university buildings across the state through video conferencing from the state secretariat. According to a state government press release, Ms Jayalalithaa on Friday inaugurated buildings, workshops and student hostels, besides new government engineering college worth Rs 54.8 crore.
The facilities that the Chief Minister inaugurated include buildings constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 60.10 crore in Srirangam, Rs 49.38 crore each worth buildings in Thanjavur and Dharmapuri. The other buildings that were inaugurated on Friday, include boys hostel at Anna University constituent college campus in Panruti, constructed at a cost of Rs 5 crore, boys and girls hostel in Silvarpatti, in Dindigul district, worth Rs 10 crore.
The press release says that with an aim to help poor people enter higher education institutions and reach the top level in life, Ms Jayalalithaa has launched 53 colleges, including 11 polytechnics, 38 government and university constituent colleges in the past four years..
“With the efforts taken by the Chief Minister, the gross enrolment ratio in the state has touched a record level of 42 per cent,” the release adds. Ministers O. Panneerselvam, P. Mohan, P. Palaniappan and Mukkur N. Subramanian, chief secretary K. Gnanadesikan, state government advisor Sheela Balakrishnan and higher education secretary Apoorva were present during the inauguration.
