Somnath Bharti refutes wife’s cruelty charge

“She wants me to leave politics and AAP” Mr Bharti said
Chennai: Former law minister of Delhi, Somnath Bharti, denied the allegations of domestic abuse made against him by his wife Lipika, charging him with physical and mental torture. Lipika moved the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) alleging that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA even unleashed dogs at her when she was pregnant.
Addressing a media gathering on the sidelines of an AAP event in Chennai, Mr.Bharti addressed the inevitable question posed to him, although reluctantly. “The matter has brought out deep pain in me,” he stated recalling his earlier statements to the media that his wife’s demand has been to choose between her and his mother from the day he joined politics.
“She wants me to leave politics and AAP. I have told her I cannot do that,” he said adding that all allegations in the complaint are untrue and baseless. The couple got married in 2010. “We have not been living together for the past five years, so that itself disproves any allegation of domestic abuse,” Mr Bharti said. The women’s commission has slapped him with a notice based on charges leveled against him, asking him to appear before them in New Delhi on June 26.
