RTA to crackdown on unfit school buses

Officials set a deadline of June 15 for fitness certificates

Ongole: Transport department officials have decided to take stern action against school buses if they ply without fitness certificates from June 15. They have decided to book cas-es against school managements for negligence and take further action against them. Officials are conducting fitness tests to the school buses on June 13 and 14 also.

There are 1190 school buses in the district. The officials issued fitness certificates for some buses two years ago. They, however, denied fitness certificates to 100 buses. The school managements have to take fitness certificates to 773 buses. Hence, officials are conducting fitness tests on June 13 and 14 at Darsi, Markapuram, Ongole, Chirala and Kandukuru.

From June 15, the officials will conduct raids and book cases against school buses. Negligence of school managements have also led to road accidents. Deputy transport commissioner N. Siva-ram Prasad said, “The officials will book cases against the buses if they ply without fitness certificates from June 15. The special teams will conduct check and book cases and prosecute them.”

Road accidents are on rise due to negligence of drivers. After N. Balasu-bramanyam took over charge as transport commissioner, he instructed the joint inspections to check road accidents, ensure fitness of the vehicles.
